Etsy sellers can now charge $0.20 to $500 for personalized text

Sellers who offer personalization can add a price to optional text fields from July 30, 2026, and that price carries Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee.

You can now charge buyers for personalized text on Etsy. Add-on prices go on optional Text box fields in custom options, and Etsy says they must "be between $0.20 USD and $500 USD equivalent, based on your listing currency."

Etsy staff announced add-on pricing on July 30, 2026: "Add an additional charge for personalized text directly to your listings." The same update added reusable custom options fields, bulk changes across listings and editing in the Etsy Seller app.

It builds on custom options fields, which Etsy launched on May 11, 2026. With them, "you can add up to five fields per listing to capture text, options, and file uploads." Etsy's Newly Crafted roundup calls them "custom options fields (formerly called personalization)".

Who it affects

Sellers who offer personalization. The price only works on one field type: "Add-on pricing is only supported for optional, text-based Custom options fields," Etsy says. Required fields, lists of options and file uploads can't carry a price. You set the price on Etsy.com.

What it costs

The add-on price counts toward Etsy's fees. Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy says a personalization fee "is added to the listing price you display and the total display price is subject to the same transaction fees". The policy applies the same rule to Offsite Ads fees and regulatory operating fees.

Etsy's own example is a $5 charge for an embroidered name on a sweater. Say the sweater is $30 and shipping is $6. Without the name, the 6.5% transaction fee is charged on $36, which is $2.34. With the name, it's charged on $41, which is about $2.67. The add-on costs you about $0.33 in transaction fee, so you keep about $4.67 of the $5 before processing fees, which vary by country.

Buyers see the add-on in the price. Etsy says it "is automatically added to the item price" and buyers "see the updated total before checkout."

What to do

  • If you charge for names or engraving through a variation today, Etsy suggests you "consider switching to an optional Custom options field with add-on pricing instead."
  • Mark the text field optional, then enter a price in the Add-on price field. To remove a price, enter $0 and publish.
  • Price with fees in mind. A $0.20 add-on carries 6.5% like any other part of the price.

What we don't know yet

Etsy hasn't said whether add-on prices will extend to required fields, lists of options or file uploads.
