Etsy tests selling prints of sellers' digital files, with eligible US and Canadian shops included by default

Shops based in the US or Canada with eligible digital listings are included automatically unless they opt out, under a test Etsy described on September 14, 2026.

Etsy is testing a way for buyers of a digital file to order a physical print of it. A third-party print company sells and ships the print from its own shop. Eligible shops are in the test automatically, so if you don't want this, you have to opt out.

What changed

Etsy's Help article on the test, first published on September 14, 2026, says: "If you have eligible digital listings, they may be included in this test automatically." After buying an eligible digital file, a buyer may see an option to order it as a printed item through a separate checkout on Etsy. The buyer picks from the available options, selects the file, previews the item and places a separate order.

The print is sold by Ventur Editions, which Etsy describes as "a third party print provider" that "sells and fulfills the printed item from their shop". The printed item has its own listing and reviews, and Ventur Editions handles support if something goes wrong with the order. Etsy's September 2026 update notes tell sellers: "You won't be responsible for producing or shipping the order."

Who it affects

Your digital listings may be included if:

  • your shop is based in the US or Canada;
  • you don't already offer a physical version of the design or use your own print-on-demand integration;
  • the file meets the print partner's requirements for high-quality printing.

Shops based outside the US and Canada aren't eligible. Neither are designs you already sell in physical form.

What it means

A print of your design can sell on Etsy through another shop, under a listing with its own reviews. Etsy's two articles don't say whether you earn anything from those sales.

The opt-out has limits. It covers your whole shop, not single listings, so you can't keep some designs in the test and take others out. It also stops only the print offer that appears after a purchase. In Etsy's words, it "doesn't prevent buyers from independently accessing Ventur Editions' services with the content they've downloaded".

What to do

To opt out on Etsy.com:

  1. Go to Shop Manager.
  2. Select Settings, then Options.
  3. Find "Allow buyers to purchase digital prints" and select Disabled.

After you opt out, the print option no longer appears after purchases of your eligible listings. Etsy's update notes say you can opt out at any time.

What we don't know

  • Whether you're paid anything when a buyer orders a print of your design. Neither article says.
  • Whether the print listing names your shop or links back to it.
  • How many shops are in the test, when buyers first saw the option, and when the test ends.
