How KaylilysDesigns rewrote its handprint craft titles around the picture

KaylilysDesigns
KaylilysDesigns has sold more than 5,000 printables and stickers on Etsy since opening in 2023, many of them crafts that turn a child's handprint into a keepsake. The shop checks its keywords in Alura, then rewrites its titles by hand, naming what's in the picture before who it's for.
Crafts that turn a handprint into a keepsake
KaylilysDesigns makes printables for the people who spend their days with small children: parents, grandparents, preschool and daycare teachers, Sunday school leaders. The handprint crafts are the heart of it. A child's painted hands become a crab's claws or part of a pumpkin patch, and an editable photo frame puts the child's face in the middle. Many come as a Canva template in several sizes up to 11x14 inches, and some include a version for a printed photo and a handwritten name.
The rest of the catalog follows the school year: goodbye letters from teacher to student, fall treat tags, Thanksgiving fingerprint trees, Bible verse coloring placemats. There are personalized waterproof stickers too, from teacher name stickers to classroom reward stickers, and custom requests go to Kim by Etsy message.
Every craft has a dozen names
A turkey handprint is a Thanksgiving craft, a fall preschool activity, a classroom sheet and an autumn keepsake, all at once. The people buying it range from a parent at the kitchen table to a daycare teacher planning the week. The shop's earlier titles listed many of those buyers and uses, so in some of them the turkey itself came near the end. It's a common way to write a title when you want every kind of search to find it. It also meant a buyer scrolling past had to read most of the line to learn what the craft looked like.
There's a second question behind every title. With more than 200 printables across every season and holiday, the shop needs to know which of those phrases people actually type, and which are already crowded with near-identical listings from other printable shops.
“Teachers and parents look at the picture first. They want to know what it is, the occasion, if any, and who it is for. I think about who, what, when, where, and how when writing a title and description.”
Checking the words before the season
The research happens in Alura's keyword research. The shop types a phrase a parent or teacher might search and reads what comes back: Search volume, Competition, which counts the active Etsy listings using the phrase, and Trend, which shows whether interest is rising or fading. Similar Keywords suggests the next phrases to check, which is often how a second, plainer way of saying the same craft turns up.
When there's a longer list of candidates, Bulk Search takes them in one run and lays the numbers out side by side. That makes it quick to see which version of a seasonal idea has real searches behind it and which is already crowded.
Alongside the keywords, the shop looks at what other printable shops already sell, using Alura's estimated sales and reviews, and saves listings worth comparing to a list.
The titles stay in the shop's own words
Then the titles get rewritten in Alura's listing editor. For the crafts below, the shop typed the new titles itself. The thing in the picture moves to the front: the turkey, the popsicles. The long run of ages and settings gets shorter, and what's left reads like a sentence. The reindeer craft, for one, dropped a trailing "Preschool Holiday Activity" and kept everything else.
AI does have a job here. It drafts the alt text for listing photos, the short image descriptions that are slow to write for every photo of every printable. The titles shown here are the shop's own words. Nothing changes on Etsy until Publish changes is clicked, so each rewrite can be read once more before it goes live.
“The customer looks at the title and picture first, so I would like it to sound like me. For alt text, I use Alura's AI features to describe the photos.”
The picture comes first now
The changes are easiest to see side by side. In each pair below, the craft is named by what a child's handprint turns into, and that name moves toward the front. The Thanksgiving craft now opens with the turkey instead of the holiday, and the holiday follows straight after. The popsicles move out of the second phrase and into the first, and the string of "Kids Toddler Printable Keepsake" at the end becomes "for Kids" and stops.
Each one keeps its main search words: Thanksgiving, summer, handprint, craft. They're just in an order a person can read, and a buyer scrolling past learns what the craft looks like from the first two words. Both rewritten titles are on the shop's live listings.

Name what's in the picture first
Start each title with the thing a buyer can see in your photo. Then add one or two phrases about who it's for and where it gets used, and check that those phrases have real searches behind them before you commit. Look at seasonal words early, while there's still time to change a title before the holiday arrives. And when a title starts to feel like a list, read it out loud. If you run out of breath before you reach the thing in the picture, move it to the front.
“Picture the person printing it. A teacher planning Thanksgiving week is looking for a turkey, so make sure that is at the beginning of your title. Help someone searching find exactly what you are selling.”
