How dads3dstudio keeps its 3D printed planters and decor on Pinterest

dads3dstudio
dads3dstudio opened on Etsy in 2025 and has made more than 980 sales of 3D printed planters, vases and seasonal decor, with a 4.9 star average across nearly 400 reviews. As the catalog grows, Alura turns each new listing into Pinterest pins, and Smart Pins keeps the older designs in rotation.
Printed to order, in the buyer's colors
dads3dstudio 3D prints home decor to order. Planters make up the biggest group: lattice pots with removable inserts, open-air orchid planters that let the roots breathe, self-watering pots, and a ribbed pedestal planter with a twist-lock drip tray. Next to them sit ribbed Japandi vases for dried stems, low poly busts of a lion and a Spartan warrior, a geometric rhino, and a cat asleep on a crescent moon.
Most pieces come in several sizes, and buyers choose colors from a guide. On the Polygon orchid planter, the pot and the base can be different colors, each picked from 23. The seasonal pieces light up: ghost tea light holders for Halloween, a snowy Christmas tree with star cutouts, a nativity scene with an LED tea light. There's a small workshop line too, wall mounts for orbital sanders printed in PETG or glass fiber filament.
Pinning by hand competes with printing
Planters, vases and seasonal decor are exactly what people save on Pinterest when they plan a windowsill, a bookshelf or a Halloween mantel. The listings already have the right pictures for it: the planter with a plant in it, the vases holding dried stems, the ghost lamp lit on a nightstand at night.
Turning those photos into pins by hand is a job of its own, and seasonal decor has to be on Pinterest well before the season, while people are still planning. Pick a photo, crop it tall for Pinterest, write a title and a description, choose a board, then do the next one. New designs keep arriving, and the older ones are worth pinning again with a different photo. For a shop that prints to order, that work competes with the printing.
“Making a pin means picking a photo, cropping it, writing it up, then doing the next one. I'd rather spend that hour printing.”
New listings pinned, older ones rotated
The shop runs both of Alura's Pinterest automations. Pin New Listings checks once a day for listings that went live in the past day and turns each one into several pins, each from a different listing photo. A new lion bust or wall planter reaches Pinterest from several angles, without anyone opening Pinterest.
Smart Pins looks after the rest of the catalog. Once a day it fills a queue about ten days ahead with pins made from active listings, ranked mostly by Etsy listing views. A photo pinned in the past week is never reused, so the same planter can come back around with a different picture.
Both automations crop to the tall 2:3 shape and use pin text "Optimized for Pinterest with AI" rather than the Etsy title as written. Smart Pins uses Smart Board, which matches the shop's Etsy sections to its Pinterest boards, so seasonal pieces can land on Halloween Decor or Christmas Decor while everything else goes to Home Decor.
The queue is still there to check. Any pin can be edited, reordered or deleted before it posts, and Publish now sends one out early. Otherwise the automated pins go out on the schedule the shop set, with no approval step to remember.
“Etsy titles are written for Etsy search. A pin needs a short line someone reads while scrolling, so I let the AI write those.”
Pins that read like captions
The pins read differently from the listings behind them. On Etsy the lion is "Low Poly Lion Bust, Geometric Animal Sculpture, Modern Shelf and Office Decor, 5 Sizes, Housewarming Gift." On Pinterest it's "Geometric Low Poly Lion Bust for Modern Decor," with a description that starts "Add contemporary charm with this low poly lion bust, available in 5 sizes and customizable colors." The ribbed pumpkin set becomes "Minimalist Ribbed Pumpkin Set for Modern Fall Decor," and the butternut pumpkins are pinned as "Set of two 3D printed butternut pumpkins, perfect for Thanksgiving tables and autumn decor."
Each pin links back to its Etsy listing. Seasonal pieces are pinned alongside the planters and vases: the ghost tea light holders, the ghost lamp, the gingerbread house storage box, the modern nutcracker set.
Shoot every piece where it would live
Show each piece in a room, the way a buyer would use it: a planter with a real plant in it, a vase holding dried stems, a pumpkin on a table. On Pinterest people are planning a space more than shopping for an object, and those photos become your pins. And keep your Etsy sections tidy. When the Halloween pieces sit in their own section, they can go to their own board. If a piece comes in several colors or sizes, give the lineup a photo of its own, near the front. It becomes a pin too.
“Show the planter with a plant in it. Nobody saves a picture of an empty pot on a white background.”
