ChewieMacRuns has sold more than 2,200 digital coloring books, tracing books and murder mystery puzzle books on Etsy since 2018. In Alura's listing editor, the shop rewrites its titles so each one opens with what the book is, and Alura carries new books to Pinterest.

Murder mysteries and cozy coloring in one PDF shop

ChewieMacRuns sells books you never wait for in the mail. Every product is a PDF, made to print at home or to open on a tablet. Much of the catalog is for unwinding: hand-drawn coloring books of cozy girls, curvy women at Christmas and animal friends at a day spa, plus tracing books of gardens, cottages and city streets. Much of the rest is for people who like to be stumped. Wedding Estate Mysteries has 100 hard logic cases. Find the Spy hides one spy among 54,000 suspects and gives you 22 clues to catch them.

The shop also designs for e-ink tablets, where a layout made for a bigger screen is a fight to use. There are planners, journals and legal pads laid out for the reMarkable Paper Pro Move, notebooks for the Kindle Scribe, and puzzle books with hyperlinked pages, so you tap to the page you need instead of scrolling.

Titles that started with the mood

A shop this varied asks a lot of its titles. A shopper who wants a Christmas coloring book for an evening off and a shopper who wants a hard whodunit for a long flight land on the same Etsy shop, and each needs to know in a glance which book is theirs.

Many of the older coloring titles were written the way you'd write a cover. They opened with the feeling of the book: Cozy, Merry, Adorable. They used pipes to stack phrases, and several ran past a hundred characters before the end. The word Christmas could sit halfway down the title, and the number of pages sometimes didn't appear at all. That reads well as a cover line. As the first words a shopper sees in a search result, it makes them read to the end to learn what the book is.

“Cozy is how our books feel, so that's what we wrote first. But someone hunting for a Christmas coloring book types Christmas coloring book. The title should start where they start.”

The thing first, then the count, then the file

The shop does its title work in Alura's listing editor, and looks up phrases in Alura's keyword research. The new titles follow the same order almost every time: what the book is, how many pages, and what file you get. Pipes become commas. Adjectives move out of the opening words, and the phrase a buyer would actually search for moves in.

Nothing goes to Etsy until the shop clicks Publish changes, and every earlier version stays in the listing history, so a rewrite that doesn't work can be restored.

AI does part of the work. It writes alt text for the product photos, suggests extra tags like seasonal coloring on the holiday books, and drafts titles the shop can keep, edit or skip. The holiday titles below were typed by hand.

“I'll let the AI describe a photo or pitch a title. The first words are the ones I check hardest, because a coloring book buyer and a puzzle buyer want different things.”

New books reach Pinterest without a second upload

Coloring pages and puzzle books are a natural fit for Pinterest, where people save activities for later. ChewieMacRuns connected its Pinterest account to Alura and turned on both automations. Pin New Listings runs once a day and picks up books that went live in the past day. Smart Pins keeps a queue about ten days ahead, made from the shop's active listings and weighted toward the ones getting the most views on Etsy.

Alura writes the pin text with AI, and it follows the book. The new apothecary puzzle book went out as "Mystery Number Search Puzzle Book for Adults, 244 Pages". A floral tracing book was pinned as "Mindful Floral Tracing Book for Kindle Scribe & Digital Relaxation".

On Pinterest, the shop keeps boards by kind of book: one for tablet books for the Kindle Scribe, reMarkable and iPad, one for reverse coloring books, one for bold and easy coloring books.

The holiday books now lead with what they are

The holiday coloring books show the pattern most clearly. These titles were rewritten by hand in Alura's editor. Each now opens by naming the book, Christmas included, then gives the page count and the file type.

The rewrites are shorter, too. The elf book went from a run of four pipe-separated phrases to one line that even names the paper size, which matters to anyone printing at home.

Advice for other sellers

Tell people exactly what file they're buying and what it works on. A digital shopper has no box to turn over, so the page count, the paper size and the device belong in the listing where they can't be missed.

And keep the mood for the cover. The title is where a shopper decides whether this is the book they came for.

“Someone printing at home and someone on a reMarkable want the same book in very different shapes. Say which one they're getting before they buy, not after.”
