How TomorrowSeeds got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

I began selling seeds when I harvested some seeds from my garden to save for next planting season and had so many extras. I figured many people would love to grow their own plants from fresh seeds.

I decided to sell my seeds on Etsy with a promise of 1 business day shipping and handling and thus, TomorrowSeeds was born!

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

I love to sell vegetables because there are so many unique varieties out there that many people don’t know about, or don’t have access to because of their geographic location.

For some vegetables, unless you’re shopping at a specialty farmer’s market or a Whole Foods, they’re really hard to find.

Plus, vegetables are really nutritious! I grew up in a food desert and know the privilege of having access to fresh vegetables and produce to build a healthy lifestyle.

We have so many favorites, but here are a few of my personal loves:

I love our Mardi Gras Blend of beans because of their festive look and familiarity with green bean lovers.

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, here are Patty Pans! The most unique looking summer squash I know and this is a mix in multiple colors!

This Purple Lady Bok Choy is a beautiful color and will make anyone want to eat their “greens”!

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

It honestly took half a year to get my store off the ground and have a consistent amount of customers daily. I worked hard to earn their trust, I was shipping within my 1 business day promise and answering gardening and other general questions around the clock.

It was very organic, I did not pay for any additional Etsy advertising.

My customers loved the quality of their seeds and kept returning, which I am beyond grateful for. I could not be where I am without the trust of my customers.

Managing TomorrowSeeds

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

I managed my shop in the beginning but when I could not keep up, my husband stepped in.

Today, we both manage the shop and divide and conquer where possible. We use Etsy’s Seller App and handle the shipping and fulfillment together.

The future of TomorrowSeeds

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

My goal for next year is to source more exciting species so my customers can have a better variety of seeds to choose from.

I think it is amazing how many new gardeners trust me and my seeds to begin their gardening journey so I hope to continue educating myself and making myself available so I can be a resource for them.

I believe everyone should experience the joy of growing and if I can make that a reality for people, then I am fulfilled.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

When I started, I didn’t have the goal or expectation that my store would grow into the hub that it is today. I wanted to be a small, honest boutique where I could share what I thought was fun and exciting and interact with my community.

I think that’s the feeling my customers get today and is the reason they keep coming back. I would say to value your customers and their experience.

I would also add to be patient because it does take a long time to be established. Most of all, love what you do because it will consume your life!
