How SlickandBoogers got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

I began selling on Etsy in 2013. My sister was pregnant with my niece (the first little girl in the family), and I wanted to make so many cute things for her. I began by making all baby items and eventually settled on making birthday outfits. Birthdays are my favorite thing.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

The oFISHally one birthday outfit is one of my favorite sets. I love the colors, and the theme is so cute. This is a very popular outfit since the theme is very on trend right now. It also has a matching banner, which I’m obsessed with.

I also love these Elf Outfits. They are fun to make, and I love hearing how excited the children get when their elf is all dressed up in something unique. Another favorite item of mine is the safari hat. These can be made in any color and with any animal of any age and name. These have not been a popular item in my shop, but I wish they were because I just love them.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

I cannot be absolutely certain, but I believe I received my first sale within a week of opening my shop. It was for a Fourth of July dress. I no longer offer this dress for sale in my shop because the fabrics are no longer available. But now that I think about it, I’d love to reimagine it with a new design and fabrics. I do pay for advertising on Etsy. I also post on my business Instagram account and my Facebook page.

Managing SlickandBoogers

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

It’s only me running the show! My mom does work for me, but all of the customer interactions, decision-making, and fulfillment are done by me.

The future of SlickandBoogers

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

I’d love to grow my shop into more than a 1st birthday-focused shop. I’d like to include all birthdays and holidays. One-of-a-kind personalized gifts and outfits more than just adding embroidery to something already purchased. truly unique ideas.
