How PureMitti got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

As an advertising executive at National Geographic, I witnessed the devastating impact of toxins and plastics on our planet. Listening to my great-grandmother's nostalgic stories about a serene, clean, and toxin-free world further fueled my desire to make a difference. I decided to explore a more purposeful path and found it in sustainable communities.

Living with rural farmers in India for six months, I immersed myself in their deep connection to the earth and sustainable way of life. Drawing from this valuable experience, I created Pure Mitti—a line of toxin-free, plastic-free, and palm oil-free products for skin care, hair care, home cleaning, and more. These products are inspired by ancient ingredients and traditions, thoughtfully adapted to suit modern living.

I love our multipurpose pouch bag! It's so versatile and has countless uses. It's actually our top-selling item on Etsy. But to be honest, I love all of our items equally!

Managing PureMitti

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

Due to my busy schedule managing SEO and inventories on the site, I have an assistant to help with some tasks. However, I personally take charge of creating and packing the products. When the order comes in, I handle it immediately.

The future of PureMitti

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

My goal is to go back to our ancestral ways and live a healthy, sustainable lifestyle on a toxin- and plastic-free planet. We create natural, plant-based, and palm oil-free products for skincare, haircare, lifestyle, and home cleaning using Ayurvedic wisdom. We choose fresh, raw materials from the earth, which have been tested for centuries, to offer effective and eco-friendly alternatives to products with harmful chemicals and plastics. As a women-owned social enterprise, we collaborate with rural women farmers in India, preserving our authenticity while empowering their economic well-being. Serve more customers in this way.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

Believe in your products and keep innovating to create unique and high-quality items. Understand your target audience to connect with the right customers and boost your sales. Provide excellent customer service, be patient, and stay persistent. Promote your shop through social media, blogging, and other marketing channels. Engage with potential customers, share behind-the-scenes content, and showcase your products in action.
