How PixelMagicByBrandi got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
This new canvas shop started as I became more interested in making mixed media pieces, blending art I painstakingly create in Midjourney AI with overlaid mosaic textures from my own original pieces featured in my other shop. This has led to some exciting, very unique and abstract/fun results, and I love sharing them with customers around the world! I have every type of art from minimal geometric pieces to florals to boho collages to pop art animals for nurseries!
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
My favorite canvas pieces in the shop aren’t necessarily the ones that sell the best:
Diptych abstract watercolor floral set:

Pixel glitch mosaic abstract:

Colorful abstract pop art leaf:

Mid century modern abstract diptych set:

Colorful abstract geometric set:

These are more of the best-selling pieces, which I also like (there’s nothing I put in my shop that I don’t like or wouldn’t stand behind):
Boho strips patchwork abstract:

Rainbow Bauhaus watercolor diptych set:

Watercolor lavender flowers:

Colorful but muted bird print:

Pop art abstract with joyful aesthetic:

The ones that are my favorite are just so whimsical and forward-thinking. Note that the sets can be purchased as individual pieces as well; there’s a dropdown option in the product page that lets you choose!
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
As I was building out my shop, I think the natural ebb and flow of newness that was occurring gave me a boost in the algorithm, and ads brought in a lot of sales. But unfortunately, I had to turn off ads due to budget concerns and just rely on search and features like this to bring in traffic. Sadly, I haven’t had a sale since turning off my ads several months ago. Although I pinned all my pieces to Pinterest via Alura’s excellent Pinterest integration, which brings in visits via social from time to time as well, and is a “living” referral source.
Managing PixelMagicByBrandi
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo, or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop, and how do you handle fulfillment?
It’s just me who runs the shop! The tools I use are mostly AI-based helpers:
Midjourney AI to create the base visuals of the canvas designs, which I often go back and edit further with my own textures and other enhancements.
Topaz Gigapixel AI to upscale the images in Midjourney from 1024px to 9000px square (I only provide square pieces) for appropriate 300 dpi print resolution;
Smartist phone app that lets me place the artwork in AI environments where I can change the room type and setting, even the color of the walls, and generate the images that will be used as product photos in the Etsy listings;
Printify POD (print on demand) for the actual printing and shipping of the pieces once an order is placed – I just handle the artwork and application to the Printify listing.
ChatGPT and Alura to help generate titles, keywords, and overview write-ups for the listing pages so that they have a common through line and the title is working in as many keywords as possible
The future of PixelMagicByBrandi
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
I’d like to turn ads back on when my fixed income budget expands in the future. Ads were very effective for getting my work in front of people who otherwise would never have seen it and, as would follow, increasing sales.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
Have patience and use Etsy ads if you can. Also, be sure to craft your titles, descriptions, and keywords carefully (watch YouTube tip videos, use Alura’s AI tools, or chatGPT’s Etsy SEO GPT extension) so that your work has as much of a chance as possible at reaching/putting results in front of viewers’ faces! Keep up some activity regularly, too, as that gives your listings a boost temporarily – especially great to keep building out your shop and adding more and more pieces so that you have a better chance of someone coming across your work!
