How Owlystore got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
Hello, we are Anastasia and Clara. We are from Spain. Our story began back in Argentina, where we used to live. We love animals and knitting. One day we bought a new car, and Anastasia decided to make a tiny replica of our dog and hang it from the rearview mirror. Everybody loved it, so we started making a few more for friends and family. We eventually decided to sell our creations online, and Etsy was the ideal venue.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
We used to have 30+ items in our shop, but now we specialize in custom orders, so we only have a few items listed. My favorite has to be our best-seller, the dog and cat replicas. You can choose between the sitting and lying down positions.
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
It took approximately three months to get the first sale. It was a long time ago, so I can’t be sure. Nowadays, we try to maintain the Best Seller" badge (7 months and counting!). We also use Etsy ads and post regularly on our Instagram account.
Managing Owlystore
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
Both of us work in the shop, but we do have some designated roles. Anastasia is great with details and packaging, and I (Clara) take care of messages, shipping, etc. We don’t use any specific tool at this moment apart from the Etsy seller app. About the shipping, we only ship via DHL Express; that's a big plus for our customers. They receive the order 2–5 days after it's shipped.
The future of Owlystore
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
Our goal is to have a steady sales number throughout the year. We sell really well from September to December, but after that, sales are not very regular.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
Our advice is to be patient. It takes a while to get things going, but if you work hard, you will make it!
