How moleculestore got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
Hi, my name is Simon, and my Etsy shop is called moleculestore. I started selling chemistry and science-related apparel in 2011, after dropping out of a master's program in chemistry. This evolved into chemistry and science jewelry and many other chemistry-related products. Our aim is to make meaningful science and chemistry products and help spread science at the same time. That is why we donate 1 USD for each product you buy to science education projects for children and youth in underdeveloped regions of Asia and Africa. We design our products in Switzerland and let them be made on demand near you. This way, we reduce shipping and overproduction.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
My favorite items are our serotonin and dopamine molecule rings, our legendary AT/GC DNA t-shirt and our really nerdy periodic table fridge magnets
The t-shirt is a great science joke, and I just love science and chemistry jokes. We even have a collection of them featured here. The other products are a beautifully crafted molecule ring featuring the two most important neurotransmitters, serotonin and dopamine, and a periodic table for your fridge. I don’t think I have to tell you why I think those are awesome products.
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
We had immediate sales in our Etsy shop.Currently, we don’t do anything other than have great images and a nice product description.
Managing moleculestore
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
We have fulfillment partners all over the world, and at the moment, we don’t use any tools to run our store.
The future of moleculestore
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
We want to keep on creating the best chemistry and science-inspired products in this universe. and collect as much money to donate as possible.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
Take good pictures and videos of your product and check how you want to ship internationally beforehand. Especially if you are not located in the United States, as the majority of our customers order from the United States.
