How knitcrochethome got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

My name is Nihal; I am the owner and founder of knitcrochethome on Etsy. I am a retired primary school teacher. I have had an interest in crocheting, knitting, sewing, and embroidery since I was a kid. I loved to try different designs. But, in my working life, I didn’t have time to concentrate on my crafts. After retiring, I finally had plenty of time to devote to my crafts.
I attended jewelry design courses and learned many techniques in beadwork. I have prepared many jewelry product designs. while looking for a platform to showcase my designs. I met "Etsy" and opened a shop in 2009. I started selling products designed by me in my shop. I was getting very positive feedback from my customers. Positive feedback led me to work harder. Some of my customers have asked me to prepare the tutorial files for my jewelry designs. So, with the guidance of my customers, I started to prepare tutorial files, and I took great pleasure in preparing the tutorial files for my designs. The design of every product I sell belongs to me. I like to produce different designs.

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

All the items in my shop are my favorites. I’ve included just a few for you. These items sell very well. Because the design of my items is unique.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

My first sale was 15 days after I opened my shop. I attract my customers to my shop via social media (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.), Etsy ads, and Google ads. I also offer discount codes for my customers.

Managing knitcrochethome

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

My son helped me in the first few days when I opened my shop. He took product photos. Also, he taught me how to take beautiful photos. helped write product descriptions. Then I started to do the shop management alone. I am not using any apps.

I work with fast shipping companies for shipping. If my customer accepts, my shipments are made with a fast shipping company. If customers do not prefer, standard post office shipping is used. My tutorial designs are instant-download PDF files. After purchasing, the customer can download the file to a computer, tablet, or phone.

I will continue to produce different designs to increase the product variety in my shop.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

My advice to those opening a new shop on Etsy is to read the "Seller Handbook." This book is a guide for sellers. I have increased my sales by applying the advice in this book. To summarize briefly:
1. A quality photo shoot
2. Writing complete and correct descriptions of the products
3. Choosing the keywords necessary for your customers to find your products easily
4: Promotion of products on social media.
5. Promote on Etsy and Google Ads.
6. Respond to customers' questions in a short time.
7: Be aware of listing products for special days.
