How FunEyePatches got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
In my shop, I sell eye patches for kids. My son was the one who inspired me to make these products. When he was just a baby, he was diagnosed with amblyopia. One of the ways to treat this disorder is to strengthen the eye with an eye patch. Because kids are still very little, this treatment can be hard for them and for their parents too, as it is hard to convince little ones to wear the patch. Another problem is that it is hard to find a suitable option, so I started making my own patches. And then I noticed that my boy had less trouble wearing the patch when it was comfortable and fun for him. The reason I started making and selling patches on Etsy was to help other kids and their parents make this eye patching journey much easier.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
My favorite items are the ones I am most proud of. I tried a few different options, and the one that proved to be the best was an obscured patch. It is best because it is comfortable and covers the eye fully, which is crucial for this treatment to work. It took a lot of tries and customers’ feedback to make the patch as good as it is now. All of this work was worth it, because now it is one of the best-selling products and it makes kids and parents happy.

Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
It took me 4 days to earn my first sale. I was pleasantly surprised that it happened this fast, and it gave me more motivation. To attract customers now, firstly, I try to update my shop regularly, and I don’t stop improving my products. Secondly, I noticed which products are the most liked by customers, and I use Etsy ads on them to attract even more buyers. And finally, I try to learn more about how SEO works and change my product descriptions accordingly.
Managing FunEyePatches
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
All of my products are handmade. As time went by, I learned how to make my products more effectively. I try to use tools that help with advertising and SEO, or keywords. As for shipping, I use a local post office, track all of my shipments, and try to find the best price for the customers.

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
I really like where my shop is now. I like that I get orders from all around the world, and I wish for that to continue in the future.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
I think the most important advice would be to create the products you love creating. As for my personal experience, I noticed that for a shop to be seen by customers, it’s a must to fill out all the fields about the shop, like policies and descriptions. It makes your shop more professional and trustworthy.
