How EvesArtShop got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
I started Eve’s Art Shop in 2017 with the goal of creating more income for my small family. At the time, I was a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree. I am also a military spouse, and finding a steady job can be hard at times as we are constantly moving around, especially in the beginning. When I started Eve’s Art Shop, I thought I would be able to get a few sales as well as do something fun and that I loved. I never thought that it would be the success that it is today.
I was always that "art student" in school. I enjoyed drawing, painting, and making things with my hands. I wanted to go to an art college out of high school but felt pressure from my superiors that it would be a bad idea—"starving artist" and all those harsh outlooks on an artist not being a real career were something I was always told. When I started my Etsy shop, I was making things like jewelry, ring dishes, soaps, digital products, and even slime! I was trying out everything to see what was fun and rewarding but also things that I knew were popular and in which I could generate sales. I never really had a "niche", which I think worked out in my favor.
Right now, I am mainly selling digital products and stickers. I took my learning from my Photoshop classes in high school. My biggest sellers are my pregnancy announcements that I create on Photoshop and my stickers that I create using my iPad pro.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
I would say that my favorite items listed in my shop are my "and then there were..." pregnancy announcements. At the time that I created the designs for these announcements, I was very hopeful that I would be able to use them one day. Little did I know, I would struggle with infertility due to PCOS for many years after. Designing these signs made me feel a little bitter-sweet, but when I was finally able to tell my husband that I was pregnant in 2021, I used one of the signs I created—and this meant so much to me! These announcements sell really well. I think it is because it is pet inclusive. Everyone with dogs or cats wants to include their fur babies in their journey of being parents. We were parents to our fur babies before our human ones-and we don’t want to leave them out of the family unit.

Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
I officially opened my Etsy shop in October of 2017. I got my first few sales within the same week of opening. I continued to add listings daily and made sure that I had great SEO.
SEO is so important! It is the main source of how I attract customers today. Quality photos and quality listings are really important for SEO. I focused and studied a lot about how to have the best titles that people would search for. I think it is also important to gain sales by creating things that people want to buy. I am constantly keeping up with trends and making sure my products are still relevant.
Managing EvesArtShop
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
I am the face behind Eve’s Art Shop. The main tools I use for my shop are Photoshop and Procreate. My husband will occasionally assist me with packaging and shipping. I design my products at home, and I run my business out of my home. Our guest room doubles as my work room right now. I typically ship a couple of times per week. I print out labels with ETSY and fulfill orders from the comfort of my couch.
The future of EvesArtShop
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
Recently, I have been able to sell my stickers wholesale on websites like Faire and Abound. This has been a tremendous step for the future of Eve’s Art Shop because it has put my products in brick and mortar stores across the country. I am hoping to continue to get my products in stores and work with other small businesses.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
SEO, SEO, and more SEO! I cannot stress this enough. Working on your SEO is the main way to get traffic through ETSY. Before using social media to get sales, getting organic traffic on ETSY is so important, and the best way to do that is through great SEO. What you put as the title of your listing could really make or break your ability to get sales.
