How ErzulieCosmetics got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

Erzulie Cosmetics was created out of necessity. There was a need for natural and healthy cosmetics that were devoid of undesirable ingredients. In 2008, I began introducing concealers and foundations, as well as developing and manufacturing a full line of color cosmetics and organic skincare. I am the sole formulator and manufacturer of all my products and never use outsourcing. Every product is inspected and tested by Rhonda Demars before being sold on Etsy and progressinhealth.com.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

My favorite items are the concealers, because I created them first. Personally, I couldn’t find any type of concealer, natural or commercial, that covered my circles and pigmentation. Erzulie concealers are a best seller because they color-adjust to your skin tone and are barely detectable. They erase your imperfections with ease.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

It didn’t take long before I sold my first lipsticks and concealers. I utilize social media—Facebook and Instagram—word of mouth, and business cards to market my organic cosmetics. I am extremely fortunate to have a repeat and loyal clientele of incredible diversity. There was a need for clean cosmetics, and I was in the right place at the right time to introduce my innovative products. I provide makeup to people ranging in age from ten to 75, as well as all skin types and tones. 

Managing  ErzulieCosmetics

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

I wear all the hats here at Erzulie Cosmetics. I do have some helpers from time to time who help with labeling and shipping, but I formulate all the products by hand, personally. I also pack every order and create the labels. The mail person comes daily to pick up my packages.

The future of  ErzulieCosmetics

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

My goal is to be able to reach everyone who is looking for natural cosmetics with integrity. I would like to be in some stores and cast the net out a bit wider. Presently, I ship all around the globe, and I am so proud of that.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

My best advice for new sellers on Etsy is to not put their good name on something you don’t stand behind or make yourself. I have never used outsourcing for business, and I actually make every product by hand. I also recommend dedicating your time to creating and brainstorming something unique to you. Copying others will not work in the long run. Challenge yourself and put your heart and soul into your calling, and it will reward you.
