How Craftyrific got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

Craftyrific is a family operated business, and we all share a passion for crafts and handmade items. We decided to set out on this huge venture of supplying crafting materials after running a small but successful business selling handmade jewelry and hair accessories.

It's been an amazing journey!!! We have spent months researching products, sourcing the best quality materials and ensuring we open our Etsy shop with a wide selection. As we are passionate about all sorts of crafts, we feel we have a good eye for spotting what everyone else will enjoy using too.

We partnered with a great factory in Guangzhou, China and we have a great working relationship. They do an amazing job translating our ideas into great products. I LOVE what I do!

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

My favorite item is our Custom Mini Leopard Print.  We can’t keep stock on this one. I love it because the print is smaller than most common leopard prints and works great for earrings. Also, our Black Pebbled Faux Leather is another winner. The quality is amazing and the thickness is perfect. Our customers love this product.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?  

Our first sale came really fast, I would say within a day or two. We use Google ads, Instagram and Facebook to attract new customers. But the bread and butter of our business is our returning customers. We offer exceptional service and high quality fabrics. Customer retention is key.

Managing Craftyrific

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

It might be hard to believe, but I do have a full time job and Craftyrific is my side hustle. I started my shop as a one-woman show, but now we are a team of 5. I take care of product development and sourcing, mostly at nights and on the weekends. My husband manages the warehouse operations. My daughter does customer service and we have 2 amazing employees that prepare orders. 

My favorite app that I use to run my store is ShippingEasy. It was a game changer. Order fulfillment took most of our time and we were able to cut in half just having all our shops connected to this program.

The future of Craftyrific

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

I plan this year to add new categories.  I am also focused on grow Craftyrific brand and expand to other marketplaces.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

Don’t overthink it. If you have a great handmade product just do it! Etsy is an amazing marketplace with great customers. Whether you want to live off crafts or just have a side hustle this is where you want to be. 

Listen to your customers. As I mentioned before, I attribute my success to our high customer retention. Send them handwritten notes to give thanks, ask questions, be kind, and if something is wrong, make it right immediately.
