How BookNookSleeves got started
Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?
Growing up, I always had a passion for creating things and reading books. A friend introduced me to book sleeves, and I loved them so much that I decided to make a few for my own personal use. My friends and family asked to purchase sleeves for themselves, and so our business took off from there! Our shop just celebrated three years in business on January 1st.
Favorite items
What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?
My personal favorite items are our glow in the dark book sleeves! The glow-in-the-dark fabric makes a fun addition to late-night reading. We have had so many positive comments that we try to keep a few in stock at all times.
Getting sales on Etsy
How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?
Our first sale was in less than a day, thanks to friend and family referrals. To attract more customers, we are constantly updating our inventory and running sales. We continually add new items to our shop to reach a variety of shoppers.
Managing BookNookSleeves
How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?
I personally run most of our business; however, my husband also helps prep materials and ship orders in his spare time. We also have a doxie who is never far from me when I'm working and enjoys "helping" out! We are constantly posting on social media, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Pinterest. We also use Canva to create banners for our Etsy shop and posts for social media. Recently, we discovered Marmalead, which has really helped boost our sales by using relevant keywords on Etsy.
The future of BookNookSleeves
What goals do you have for your shop in the future?
In 2021, I reached my goal of being able to work from home full time. One of my goals for the future is for my husband to also be able to work from home. One goal for 2023 is to achieve more wholesale orders with authors and book boxes. I love being able to reach people all around the world with our products.
Advice for new sellers
What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?
Don’t give up! You most likely won’t receive consistent orders when first starting. Believe in yourself and your product(s), and success will find you!
