How BeaumontStudio got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

Hi, I am Olivia Beaumont. I am a traditional 2D artist, and my Etsy shop is Beaumont Studio. After graduating art school with a BFA in drawing and painting, I was constantly making art and looking for a way to earn an income. I took the advice of a friend who was selling jewelry on Etsy and opened up my Etsy shop in April of 2010. Eventually, I began selling prints of my art and taking custom orders for pet portraits.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

My favorite items in Beaumont Studio include the art that features opossums. My art has a unique sense of humor because I take inspiration from traditional art history, but there is almost always an animal personality that shines through. Imagine a painting that very much resembles a Rembrandt portrait, but the subject is an opossum with a polite smile, is self-satisfied, and is wearing a very dignified costume. The painting is titled "Pleasant Young Gallant" and currently holds the title of best seller. Another opossum painted a doting mother opossum clutching her precious baby opossum with a tender expression. The baby opossum gazes directly at the viewer and hisses.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

It took about a month before I had my first Etsy sale in May 2010. I sold a $10.00 art trading card (ACEO) made with ink and watercolors. I continued to sell tiny art cards, then expanded to prints, and 3 months after opening, I sold my first oil painting for $210.00. I was over the moon! Today, BeaumontStudio is full of an art collection that I have developed over the last 12 years. I use a lot of different strategies to drive traffic. Most visits to my shop are from the Etsy app, so I work hard to use tags and keywords that shoppers are searching for. I also stay active on social media, research SEO, and take advantage of Etsy ads. When an individual purchases my art, I prioritize customer service and even the "unboxing experience." I truly believe that "the best customer is the returning customer," and I try to leave a lasting impression.

Managing BeaumontStudio

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

For 11 years, I managed every minute detail myself. Recently, I have hired a helper who comes in a few days a week to pack orders and manage inventory. I use the Etsy seller app and buy most of my shipping labels directly through Etsy.
