How Baggingaround got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

A few years ago, I started bagging around. Canvas bags were trendy and available at many stores. However, I never really liked them, and the prints did not meet my expectations. One day I decided to try something myself and made a few designs in Adobe Illustrator. I also created an Etsy account and went to see if my designs would be in demand. With five listings live on my Etsy account, I was curious to see what would happen. After one day, I had my first sale to Iceland. Then things moved quickly.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

I still like this bag; it has such a clear message about why I’m making and selling canvas bags. The quote says it all:

Tote bag, eco friendly, not a plastic bag, environment, canvas bag

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

As I previously stated, I had a sale to Iceland after only one day.I began to expand my assortment with additional designs, makeup bags, and cards. Later, enamel pins were added. I started setting up my Instagram and Pinterest accounts and put a lot of time into researching good listing SEO. Nowadays, I put less time into this because I also work 36 hours a week as a digital marketer. But because I put so much time and effort into this back then, I still benefit from it.

Managing Baggingaround

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

I do everything myself. from product photography to shipping, and I'm proud of that.

The future of Baggingaround

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

Right now, bagging around is on a bit of a back burner because I have started working full-time. However, I want to keep making people happy with my bags and other products. Growth is not my ambition; I want to keep it small. It is something that belongs to me, and that is okay.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

Be patient, do research, and test things out. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a good web shop.
