Where Rackley3DPrints lets AI name its toys, and where it doesn't

Rackley3DPrints has made more than 1,100 sales on Etsy since 2023 with 3D printed fidgets, pocket pets and desk buddies that hold sarcastic signs. The family uses Alura's listing optimizer to give its fidgets plain, searchable titles, then puts its own words back wherever the joke or the product line is the thing being sold.

A family that prints things you want to pick up

The Rackleys are a family of four who fell in love with 3D printing a few years ago and turned it into a shop. Most of what they make is meant to be handled. There are articulated starfish, stingrays and river otters that flex in your hand, mini animals that come in a tiny crate, fidget clickers built around a crunchy mechanical keyboard switch, and Halloween boo buckets with surprise micro figures inside.

Then there are the desk buddies: little animals and monsters holding signs with lines like "Lunar Tic" and "Need Coffee", with dozens of character and sign combinations to choose from. They print on Bambu Lab printers in plant-based PLA, and they take custom requests. The shop has a 4.98 star rating from 390 reviews.

Titles written with a lot of personality

The shop's earlier titles sounded like the family. "Stingray Flexi Sensory Fidget Toy - Sensory Articulated Perfection." "Funky Pickle Keychains Fidgets | Quirky Backpack Bling Bag Charms." "Adorable Crocheted 3D Printed Halloween Fidget Spiders." They were written to be fun to read, and they were.

Etsy search reads a title differently, though. It looks for the words a shopper typed, and someone looking for a stingray fidget toy types something close to that. And the shop has dozens of products across several lines, each with a title, a description and 13 tags to write.

“We wrote titles the way we talk about the prints at home. They were fun, but they didn't always say what the thing actually was.”

AI writes the first draft for the fidgets

The family works listing by listing in Alura's editor. In Optimization settings they tick what the AI should rewrite, usually the title, description, tags and photo alt text, then click Start optimization. Nothing goes to Etsy until they click Publish changes, View changes shows exactly what moved, and if a rewrite misses, Revert all or the listing history puts the old version back.

For the articulated fidgets and clickers, the AI's version usually stays. It leads with what the product is, then adds how it works or what it's for. The starfish title used to describe its movement three different ways. Now it opens with starfish fidget toy, then the colors, the PLA and what it's for. Descriptions get the same treatment. The Easter egg clicker's listing now opens with the mechanical keyboard switch, and the family's own "Thanks us later" line is still there a few lines down.

“For a starfish or a spider, the plain version is fine. Say what it is and how it moves. That's all those titles need to do.”

The desk buddies keep the family's voice

The desk buddies are a different kind of product. The sign is the joke, and the line has its own names: Animals with Attitude, and Holidays with Attitude for the seasonal characters. Here the family used the AI's rewrite as a starting point and then edited the title themselves in the same editor.

The AI's versions were tidy and accurate, things like "Werewolf Figurine, PLA Desk Buddy with Six Funny Sign Options". The family's edits put back the words that belong to the shop: "Sarcastic" up front, "Desk Buddy", the Holidays with Attitude name, and a note that buyers can write their own sign. The Halloween pickle keychains went the same way: the live title is the family's own, and it calls them non-candy treats.

Plain names for the fidgets, the shop's names for the rest

The catalog now has two kinds of titles, and it's easy to tell them apart. The fidget and clicker titles open with the product name a shopper would type, then add the detail that sets the piece apart: articulated, mechanical switch, pass through. The desk buddy and holiday titles open with the shop's own words and still say plainly what the product is, a figurine, a desk buddy, a keychain. Both kinds go through the same editor, and the family decides which kind each listing gets. On the werewolf, the title does the plain work: a sarcastic werewolf figurine for a desk, with six signs or one you write yourself. The description carries the jokes, "Lunar Tic" among them. A few of the titles they rewrote by hand after the AI's pass:

Decide which words are yours before you rewrite

Before you rewrite a batch of titles, sort your products into two piles. Some are things people search for by name, like a fidget toy or a keychain, and those titles should say exactly that in the first few words. Others sell because of a joke, a character or a product line you named yourself. Keep those words in the title, and let everything around them be plain. And if a rewrite loses something you liked, put it back. It's your listing.

“Plain words for the plain stuff, our words for the jokes. Holidays with Attitude is a name we made up, so it stays in the title.”
