JeanPaulDesign has made more than 4,700 sales of sterling silver and gemstone jewelry on Etsy since opening in 2021. With more than 200 pieces in the shop, it uses Alura to turn listings into Pinterest pins, choosing some by hand and letting Smart Pins work through the rest.

No two stones alike

JeanPaulDesign makes jewelry around natural stones set in sterling silver. There are small oval pendants in moss agate, jade, carnelian and labradorite, a teardrop of blue topaz, open stars and spirals, and a run of sculptural statement rings with chrysoprase, amethyst and angel skin coral at the center. Beaded bracelets round it out, many on adjustable black cords, plus men's bracelets in tiger's eye, hematite and lava stone.

The stones decide a lot. Moss agate has its own pattern of green inclusions in every piece, so no two pendants match exactly, and the shop's aim is quality, one-of-a-kind jewelry. Listings give the details a buyer would ask about in person: the pendant size in inches, the weight of a ring in grams, the bead size and how a cord adjusts.

Two hundred pieces is a lot of pinning

A shop with more than 200 listings has a lot of jewelry that looks great in a photo, and a lot of it sits further down the catalog. Pinterest suits that kind of piece. People use it to plan gifts and outfits, saving a necklace to a board long before they go looking to buy, and a pin keeps linking back to the listing after it goes up.

The catch is the work. Each pin needs a good photo, a title, a description and a board, and doing that listing by listing for a catalog this size never really ends. New pieces keep arriving, and it's easy for the pinning to follow only the newest ones while a pendant listed last year never gets a pin at all.

“Someone saving a jade necklace for their mom's birthday isn't on Etsy yet. They're on Pinterest making a list. I want my older pieces on that list too.”

Some pieces picked by hand, the rest on autopilot

JeanPaulDesign uses both halves of Alura's Pinterest tools. In the Create tab, Pin Listings lets the shop pick specific listings, choose which photos to use and set them to the tall 2:3 shape that fills a Pinterest feed. Picking more than one photo makes a separate pin for each, so one ring can go out as a close-up and again as a styled shot. Alura writes the pin title and description with the Optimized for Pinterest with AI setting, and everything can be read and edited before it goes into the queue.

Two automations cover the rest of the catalog. Smart Pins fills the queue about ten days ahead with pins made from the shop's active listings, ranked mostly by how many Etsy views each listing gets. A photo pinned in the last week is never reused, so when a necklace comes back around it usually brings a different photo. Pin New Listings runs once a day and picks up anything that went live in the past day, so a fresh piece doesn't wait long for its first pin.

Both use the same settings as the hand-picked pins: AI-written text and the 2:3 format. The Pin Queue posts on the schedule the shop set, and anything can be edited, moved up or deleted before it goes out.

“I still pick some pins myself when there's a piece I want seen. The rest of the catalog I'd rather hand off than leave sitting where nobody sees it.”

Etsy titles for search, pin titles for people

The clearest change is in the words. On Etsy, a JeanPaulDesign title is a run of search phrases separated by commas, written for Etsy search. On Pinterest the same piece gets one plain line that reads like a caption. The descriptions name the stone, the setting and the occasion, and close with a nudge to see the details on Etsy, where every pin links.

New pieces show how it fits together. When the blue topaz teardrop went live, Pin New Listings picked it up and made a pin from each of its photos, each with a short caption of its own, like "Delicate Blue Topaz Necklace in Sterling Silver for Her". None of it changes the Etsy listing itself, which keeps the title written for Etsy search.

Older pieces get the same treatment. The freshwater pearl pendant on a sterling silver circle, one of the shop's earlier listings, comes around in Smart Pins as "Modern Freshwater Pearl Necklace with Sterling Silver Circle", one line where the Etsy title has five phrases.

Describe the stone as if it's in their hand

Describe the piece as if the buyer were holding it. Give the pendant size, the ring's weight, the bead size and how the cord adjusts. A buyer who can't touch the jewelry needs those details to picture it on, and they answer the questions a buyer would otherwise have to send.

And if your stones are natural, say so plainly and show it. Telling a buyer that their moss agate will have its own pattern turns a possible complaint into part of the appeal.

“Write the listing like you're holding the stone. Say the color, the size, how it sits on the cord. Those are the things people check when they can't pick it up.”
