icecreaMNlove has made more than 326,000 sales on Etsy since 2015 with custom can coolers, shirts and hats for bachelorette weekends and milestone birthdays. It uses Alura's Smart Pins to keep its themed party favors on Pinterest, and the listing editor to retitle its products.

Made to order, out the door in days

icecreaMNlove makes the matching things a party wears and holds: can coolers, oversized tees, trucker hats and embroidered bride and groom sweatshirts. Nothing waits on a shelf. There's no storefront, every order is made to order, and most ship within one to five business days, or the next business day when a buyer upgrades shipping.

The can coolers are the heart of the catalog. They come in premium neoprene or premium foam, printed with names, dates, a party theme or a photo of the birthday guest, and the shop prints its logo on the bottom of every one. Can cooler orders of three or more include a free white bride or groom cooler. Since opening on Etsy in 2015, the shop has made more than 326,000 sales and holds a 4.94 star rating from over 43,000 reviews.

Bachelorette parties start with a theme, and themes live on Pinterest

Most of what icecreaMNlove sells is bought for a theme. Coastal stripes, seashells, Last Toast on the Coast, a Nashville weekend, a Charleston weekend. Someone in the bridal party picks the look, then goes hunting for shirts and favors that match it, and a lot of that hunting starts on Pinterest boards before anyone checks out on Etsy.

Keeping a catalog this wide on Pinterest is a job of its own. Every design needs a pin with a good photo, a title, a description and a board, and new themes keep arriving. Done one pin at a time, it competes with printing, packing and custom requests, and that's a contest Pinterest tends to lose.

“Nobody searches for a can cooler first. They search for a theme and start pinning. If our coastal stuff isn't on those boards, we're not in the plan.”

Smart Pins chooses from the listings people already look at

icecreaMNlove connected its Pinterest account to Alura and switched on Smart Pins. Once a day, Smart Pins looks at the shop's active listings and tops up the Pin Queue about ten days ahead. Listings are ranked mostly by Etsy listing views, so the designs shoppers already look at most are the ones that get pinned most often. The queue then posts on the schedule the shop set in the Pin Queue: how many pins a day, on which days and in which time slots.

Two settings shape what goes out. Pin text is set to Optimized for Pinterest with AI, so every pin gets its own title and description, written from the listing. And pins are cropped tall, in a 2:3 shape that suits a Pinterest feed. A photo pinned in the last week is never reused, so one striped cooler can't take over the board.

Because the ranking follows views, the mix shifts when shoppers' interest shifts. Coastal shirts and Charleston coolers go out when those are drawing looks, and a 40th birthday cooler takes its turn when that's what people are browsing. Nobody has to sit down and pick the lineup.

“I don't choose what gets pinned, and honestly that's the point. The listings people are already looking at are the ones that go out.”

Titles that say what the product is made of

The shop also reworks titles in Alura's listing editor. Many of the older titles were written for search, as a run of phrases with the shop's own SKU on the end. The new ones lead with what the product is, then add what a buyer needs before ordering for a whole group: neoprene or foam, cotton or a blend, how many roles there are to choose from.

Changes stay in the editor until the shop clicks Publish changes, and Listing history keeps earlier versions in case one needs to come back.

Pins and titles that read like product notes

The pins now running are short and specific. "Personalized Charleston Bachelorette Can Coolers for Coastal Parties." "Last Toast on the Coast Beach Bachelorette Shirt." "Personalized 40th Birthday Can Cooler Favors with Custom Info." Each one links back to its Etsy listing, so a maid of honor who saves a cooler to her board is one tap from the listing.

The titles changed in the same direction. Each new one answers a question a group order raises: how many roles the groomsmen cooler covers, what the cruise tank is made of, which material the face cooler comes in. A few, before and after:

Advice for other sellers

Say what it's made of. People ordering for a whole bridal party compare carefully, and the material, the fit and the options are what they check before they buy. Put those in the title and the first lines of the description, where they'll see them.

And when a theme catches on, build the set around it. A group that likes the coastal stripes on a cooler will want a shirt and a hat that match.

“Someone ordering coolers for a whole bachelorette wants to know neoprene or foam before they message you. Tell them up front and you save everybody a step.”
