How aftermidnightdesign got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

I started making tags for myself, and I gave them to friends, and they liked them. I realized after some time that I could sell them as well. So I started my shop on Etsy. After some time, I found out that a lot of people were doing junk journals. I´ve always made little books for myself, but those were only books with plain white paper to use as notebooks. I started to tie-dye paper and use that together with my own watercolor papers and old book pages.

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

My favorite items in my shop are the junk journals and my Halloween tags. My digital junk journal kits sell very well.

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

I didn't take that long to start selling items—maybe a week or so. To attract new customers, I sometimes ask friends in the junk journal business to use my kits to make a journal and show it in a video.

Managing aftermidnightdesign

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

I check in with my shop first thing in the morning to see if anything has to be taken care of. I´m the only one who takes care of my shop. I answer customer requests promptly and try to give as much help as possible. Since I only sell digital items nowadays, shipping is not a concern for me.

The future of aftermidnightdesign

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

I want to make more digital junk journal kits; they sell better than tags.

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

Don't give up if it's a bit slow in the beginning. There are a lot of shops, and the customers have to find you. If you have other social media accounts, use them to advertise your shop.
