How wishescandleco got started

Introduce your Etsy shop and tell us your story. How did you begin and decide on what to sell on Etsy, and how do you create your products?

Hi there! My Etsy shop is @wishescandleco. I began selling on Etsy in 2016 when I was only in undergrad and wanted to combine my passions (candles and theme park vacations) in hopes of creating a business that could help me afford to go on spring break! Before I knew it, this little dream of mine became a full-time job. All of our candles are created by myself and my small team in Rhode Island by hand using all natural soy wax flakes, phthalate-free fragrance, hidden pins, and cotton-cored wicks!

Favorite items

What are your favorite items? What makes these so special? Why do you think these items might be selling well?

My personal favourite year-round is Mediterranean Riviera, and my favourite current seasonal scent is Are You Yeti? These are my favourites because they’re both clean and refreshing in their unique ways!

But our best seller is Shipwrecked (inspired by the smell of theme park water rides): . and Bag of Beignets:  These are super popular for their nostalgia!

Getting sales on Etsy

How long did it take for you to earn your first sale and how do you currently attract customers to your Etsy shop?

It took roughly 2 weeks before my first sale came in. I definitely utilise the power of social media the best I can to bring in new customers, but I also believe in a good value and reward system for our existing customers.

Managing wishescandleco

How do you manage your shop? Are you running solo or do you have any team members? What tools or services do you use to run your shop and how do you handle fulfillment?

Management-wise, it is only myself. However, I have a small team that helps with fulfillment!My favourite tools and apps to use are ShipStation for shipping and fulfilment and Rollo for printing shipping labels.

What goals do you have for your shop in the future?

My goal is to reach as many people as possible to experience nostalgia through the power of our scent!

Advice for new sellers

What’s your advice for a new seller starting an Etsy shop?

Keep on posting. Don’t get discouraged! Continue to try new approaches; eventually something will stick!
